Recruitment Process

When there is a vacancy, you must complete the required application and submit it prior to the closing date. Once your application is reviewed, you will be notified. The time line will vary based on the position. Time may vary from 3 weeks to 3 months. Candidates are kept abreast of the process along the way.

If you are chosen to continue in the recruitment process, you will be invited to a test process based on the position for which you applied. The test could be an oral panel interview, written, performance, typing exam or a combination. There is not a set way to prepare for a test.  However, for "skilled" tests such as typing, you may practice your typing;  for "knowledge" test, you may consider reviewing material related to the subject; and for other positions, you may go on-line and learn more about the Town of Glastonbury and the services offered.  If you have a conflict with the test date, you may contact the Human Resources Department at 860-652-7501.  However, depending upon the type of test being administered, Human Resources may not be able to accommodate you.

If you are successful in passing the test(s) and you are among the top five (5), your name will be submitted to the department director where the vacancy exist.

After interviewing the 5 candidates submitted, the director will make a recommendation to the Town Manager offering the job to one of the 5 candidates.

A Conditional Job Offer is made to the selected candidate pending successfully passing a physical, drug test, and a background check. If these checks are successful, then a Final Job Offer is made with a start date of employment with the Town of Glastonbury.

The Town of Glastonbury is committed to a policy of non-discrimination and equal opportunity for all qualified employees and applicants for employment. The Town does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, age, religion, marital status, national origin, ancestry, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or disability as defined by law. The Town will make reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities provided that the accommodation does not impose an undue hardship on the Town.
